TikTok Marketing Tactics

The way a brand takes advantage of TikTok can greatly impact their marketing results. TikTok is a social media application that is considered one of the most popular social media apps today, despite it being fairly new. The app was launched in 2016, and it’s original focus was aesthetically pleasing dancing videos. Businesses, influencers, and casual users login to this app to develop an array of content. Dancing and music is still an important part of the creation of TikTok videos, but is no longer essential to going “viral”. Brands will post marketing videos, picture reels, and general company information. Influencers have taken a casual approach by posting all parts of their life, including their personal reality or a particular interest. These users are developing marketing strategies that align with their brand and follow basic trends.

Businesses are able to utilize TikTok to promote their business. Since TikTok is a newer social media app, there tends to be less competition. However, it can be difficult to learn how to effectively take advantage of TikTok. Marketers need to keep track of music trends, dance trends, situational factors, and whether or not their target market is on the app. 60% of the user base is between the ages of 16-24, and 26% are between the ages of 25-44. This is the youngest user base among all social media platforms, and brands need to understand what those individuals are interested in. There are some TikTok marketing tactics that business owners and social media managers can utilize to find their niche market.

1. Hashtags and SEO: To optimize your content creation, research the appropriate and trending hashtags that best fit your brand. Hashtags will impact the SEO of your business, and should not be ignored on any video. To research which hashtags will be the most useful, start typing in the TikTok search bar to find trending and popular hashtags.

2. Partner with Content Creators: There are thousands of content creators on TikTok, and for every industry and interest. Influencers typically serve a particular market that may just be your target audience. Messaging micro and macro influencers for promotional videos can eventually increase your following and engagement. Or, partner up with a similar business that has been successful on TikTok and is willing to team up to increase engagement.

3. TikTok Advertisements: TikTok offers a variety of advertisement options, including in feed ads, branded hashtags, top view ads, branded effects, and branded takeover. These ads will find your niche target market within 24 hours, and typically increase following. Small businesses report that in feed ads work the best.

4. Marketing Analytics: There are many effective TikTok marketing strategies, but a business must remember to reflect on those efforts via marketing analytics. To seek this information, you will need to upgrade your account to a “Pro Account” within Privacy and Settings. Follower analytics tends to be a useful tool in understanding the following of your brand and whether or not it aligns with your target market.
